Why Go Responsive?

When someone starts talking to you about responsive web design, do you scratch your head in confusion? It’s okay, many people are confused by the concept and need for responsive design. However, when it comes to website design, responsiveness is a now a top priority.
Let’s discuss, first, what responsive design is. The top vehicle for web viewing has become mobile devices. Using tablets and phones for web searches has surpassed the use of desktop and laptop computers. Because the traditional modes of searching the web has changed, the way web content is displayed needs to change as well.
When viewing a website on a traditional desktop or laptop, the site is full width and typically spans a width of 1024 pixels. However, if viewing the same site on a smaller device such as a tablet or phone, the elements on the site will either go beyond the width of the page (forcing the user to scroll back and forth) or will be so small in view that the user needs to zoom in just to read the text on the page.
Using proper site development with responsiveness will make the same website viewable on all devices including tablets and phones. Sites with responsive design give their viewers a much smoother viewing experience, as well as allowing the viewer to focus on the content instead of focusing on resizing and scrolling the content.
A site with responsive design will often look different depending on which device the viewer is using. Often pieces of the content will shift around to give the viewer a more pleasant viewing experience. Sometimes pieces of the content will disappear on smaller devices as well. The best part about using responsive design is that the viewer can see the site has been customized for their device. As the owner of the site, using responsive design shows you take the user experience into consideration.
Some web designers may charge an additional fee for making your site responsive, but I don’t. However, the investment of responsive design in your site is invaluable. We can not predict the future and we don’t know how websites will be viewed 10 years from now. The only thing we can control is how we build our sites today. Building a responsive website will ensure that your site is going to be viewed properly no matter what size device the viewer is using. That’s just good business.
